St. Kate's hands women's soccer first MIAC loss

ST. PAUL, Minn.- The St. Olaf women's soccer team was dealt their first conference loss of the year as they went down 1-0 to St. Catherine University on Saturday afternoon.
Senior defender Christina Paik scored the lone goal of the game in the 21st minute and the Wildcats shutout the Oles the rest of the way to clinch the win. Paik's goal was her fifth of the season with Leisl Wolf providing the assist.
St. Olaf narrowly outshot St. Catherine 12-11 and held a slender 9-8 advantage in shots on goal. Kajsa Brindley led the Oles with four shots, while Madison Van Wylen and Megan Fellows each had two. Hannah Brown led the Wildcats with three shots.
Nora Forbes took the loss in goal for St. Olaf despite making seven saves. Wildcats goalie Danielle Mendez picked up the win by recording nine saves, including two in the final five minutes on shots by Kyle Clifford and Van Wylen.
The loss was the first in three MIAC games (2-1-0) for the Oles, as the team now has a 4-3-1 record overall. St. Kate's also sits at 2-1-0 in the conference and is now 6-2-0 overall.
Next up for St. Olaf is a trip to Hamline on Tuesday for a 3:30 pm game. The Pipers are 5-2-1 this year but are winless in their three MIAC games (0-2-1).
