Wolfram gets 1,000th kill as volleyball splits final two matches at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa - Senior Katie Wolframe got her 1,000th career kill as St. Olaf defeated Simpson College in five sets before falling in three to No. 24 Carthage College in the final two rounds of the Knights Classic volleyball tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Wolfram is the 10th player in school history to reach the feat.
Melissa Burch had 15 kills in the win over Simpson. The Oles came back from a 2-0 set disadvantage in the win (9-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-22, 15-7). Burch hit .200 on 50 attempts while Ari Carlson hit .231 with 10 kills on 26 swings. Wolfram also had 10 kills for the Oles. Simpson was led by Steph Keller's 16 kills.
St. Olaf overcame a 19-16 deficit in the fourth set, helped by a 7-2 run. The Oles built a 12-4 lead in the fifth on the way to the win.
In the day's second game, Wolfram had 11 kills in the loss. Carthage gutted out a 26-24 win in the first set. St. Olaf went on an 15-6 run to take a 22-20 lead. But, Carthage then scored six of the next eight points to win the set.
