Volleyball drops two to open UW-Stout tournament

MENOMONIE, Wis. - St. Olaf lost a four-set match to host UW-Stout before dropping a three-set sweep to UW-River Falls at the Bluedevils' volleyball tournament on Friday night.

St. Olaf (8-17) had a 17-kill performance from Melissa Burch in the opening loss (21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21) to UW-Stout (11-10). Burch his .341 and Ari Carlson .348, with nine kills, in the loss.

In the second match of the day, the Oles had three with seven kills each, but UW-River Falls had a 16-kill effort from Erin Green on the way to the 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 victory. UW-River Falls (18-6) hit .210 in the match, while St. Olaf hit .029.

St. Olaf finishes the tournament tomorrow with matches against Saint Benedict and No. 19 UW-Stevens Point.
