Burch reaches 1,000 kills, but UW-Stevens Point, CSB too much for volleyball

MENOMONIE, Wis. - Senior Melissa Burch reached 1,000 career kills, but No. 19 UW-Stevens Point and the College of Saint Benedict dealt the St. Olaf volleyball team a pair of losses to close out UW-Stout's tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Burch had six kills in the loss to UW-Stevens Point to become the 11th player in school history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau.
St. Olaf and the Pointers traded 25-23 decisions in the first two sets. UW-Stevens Point then took control in the final two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-17 to finish the match.
Christina Brinkman had 22 kills and 10 digs while Morgan Bartkowski had 11 kills to pace the Pointers, while Katie Wolfram had nine for St. Olaf in the loss.
In the second match of the day, Lexi Alm had 14 and Alexa Rinde 13 kills as Saint Ben's defeated St. Olaf 25-21, 25-16, 25-21. Melissa Burch and Ari Carlson had eight kills each to lead the Oles (8-19).
St. Olaf returns to MIAC play with a Wednesday home match against St. Catherine University at 7 p.m.
