NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's soccer team topped Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday behind two David Rosenthal goals.
Saturday marked the third straight game that Rosenthal has tallied two goals. Both of Rosenthal's goals came on penalty kicks that he won himself. The first came in the 21st minute and the second came just more than seven minutes later. Rosenthal now has 11 goals and eight assists this season.
Earlier, Kenzie Lund had got the Oles on the board inside the first six minutes. Nick Lund played a cross in from the left and Kenzie Lund ran past a Cobber defender and buried the ball in the back of the net, giving Runquist no chance. The goal was the fourth of the year for Kenzie Lund, while Nick Lund got his fifth assist.
The Oles (10-5-1, 5-2-1 MIAC) outshot the Cobbers (6-10-0, 3-5-0 MIAC) 26-10 for the game. Rosenthal had nine shots for St. Olaf and Claudio Barboza added four. Concordia was led by Kristian Reiersgord's three shots.
Runquist made 13 saves for the Cobbers in taking the loss. Harry Ullmann earned his seventh shutout of the season by making four saves in net for the Oles.
With the win, the Oles will at least stay in a tie with Saint John's for the fourth and final playoff spot. Saint John's traveled to Winona on Saturday afternoon. Next up for St. Olaf is a trip to Arden Hills on Tuesday to face Bethel (2-13-0, 1-7-0 MIAC).
