Ole men drop exhibition game at Division II Southwest Minnesota State

MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State defeated visiting St. Olaf 68-49 in a exhibition men's basketball game on Monday night.
Charlie Aslesen had 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss for the Oles, who open the season on Nov. 15 at Bethany Lutheran.
Lavione West had 14 points and Shaun Condon 13, each off the bench, for the Division II Mustangs.
St. Olaf cut the 12-point SMSU halftime lead to seven in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Mustangs scored the next five points and pulled away midway through the half. The Oles got within 11 with 3:18 to play on a Josh Pratt three-pointer, but SMSU closed the game on a 10-2 run.
Connor Gunderson added eight points and Justin Paul seven for St. Olaf in the loss. Nick Smith had nine points, on 4-of-5 shooting, for the Mustangs.
Both teams struggled beyond the arc. St. Olaf was 4-for-21 and SMSU 5-for-18. SMSU held a slight advantage on the boards, 32-30, but had 20 turnovers to the Oles' 11.
