Men's hockey falls late in overtime to Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn.- Brian Kang scored his second goal of the game with under a minute left in overtime to give host Concordia a 2-1 win over the St. Olaf men's hockey team in the MIAC opener for both teams on Friday night at Moorhead Sports Center.
Kang's second goal came shorthanded with 47 seconds left in the overtime period. The winning goal was assisted by Ben Payne, his second of the game, and Jared Maetche.
After a scoreless first period, Ross Trousdale had given the Oles a 1-0 lead at the 7:05 mark of the second period. Trousdale's opener was unassisted.
Kang leveled the score at 1-1 with a power play goal with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation. Payne and Adam Sundqvist earned assists on Kang's first goal.
St. Olaf (1-3-1, 0-1-0 MIAC) outshot Concordia (2-2-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) 32-21 over the course of the game, including a 20-9 margin in the second and third periods. Steve Papciak made 19 saves for the Oles, while Chris Neamonitis stopped 31 shots for the Cobbers. Papciak is now 1-3-1 on the season and Neamonitis is 2-1-0.
The Oles and Cobbers play again on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
