Wintheiser, Ole men win NCAA Division III Central Region Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn.- Led by Grant Wintheiser's individual title, the host St. Olaf men's cross country team won the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships title on Saturday morning.
St. Olaf finished with 70 points, five ahead of Central College (Iowa). Central was ranked first in the region in the October 30 pre-regional rankings, just ahead of St. Olaf. Wintheiser, a sophomore, finished in 25:20.9, nearly ten seconds ahead of Central College's Eli Horton. With the win, Wintheiser adds the regional title to his MIAC individual title.
Junior Brian Saksa (26:05.3), first-year Jake Campbell (26:12.9), and senior Tim Lillehaugen (26:16.0) all finished inside the top 20. Their times were good for 11th, 15th, and 17th, respectively. Senior Chris Massey was 26th (26:23.1) to round out the five scores for the Oles.
St. Thomas, who finished second at the MIAC Championship, was eighth. Saint John's and Bethel ran to fourth and seventh place finishes, respectively.
St. Olaf will now move on to the NCAA DIII Championship meet held in Terre Haute, Indiana next Saturday.
