Ole men finish 14th, Wintheiser third overall at NCAA's

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Grant Wintheiser's third place finish led the St. Olaf men's cross country team to a 14th place finish at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Course.
Wintheiser, a sophomore, capped his standout season with a time of 24:35.7 to earn All-American honors. UW-Stout's Tim Nelson won the 8K national championship with a time of 24:26.8, while Allegheny's Bobby Over was second (24:34.8).
Junior Brian Saksa (25:19.7) was the second Ole to finish, doing so in 52nd place. First-years Jake Campbell (25:43.8) and Calvin Lehn (26:02.8) were 102nd and 109th, respectively. Senior Tim Lillehaugen rounded out the five Ole times by finishing 199th in 26:21.6. Junior Stefan Lemke and senior Chris Massey finished 205th and 220th, respectively.
North Central (Ill.) took the team title with 167 points and had two runners in the top ten overall. The second through fourth teams were separated by just two points and went to Calvin (188 pts), Haverford (189 pts), and UW-La Crosse (190 pts).
The Oles were competing at the NCAA's for the fourth time in the last five years. Last year, they finished 23rd after finishing 21st and 15th in 2009 and 2008.
