Stumpf, first period burst lead Oles past Cards

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Nicole Stumpf had two goals and an assist, as St. Olaf scored three first period goals in a 5-3 MIAC women's hockey win over Saint Mary's on Friday night at Northfield Ice Arena.

Stumpf had each of her goals in the first, an even-strength score at 5:08 and a shorthanded tally at 16:22.

Margot Fleming also scored twice for the Oles, as she had a one in the first and an insurance goal in the third to make it 5-1.

SMU scored a pair of late goals to get within two, but the Oles' Sam Ubl made 14 of her 31 saves in the final period to get the victory.

The teams meet tomorrow in Winona in the series finale.
