WAUSAU, Wis. - The St. Olaf alpine team won both the Slalom and Giant Slalom races this weekend at the Granite Peak led by Haakon Schonheyder's wins in both events at the Granite Peak USCSA Race, which finished on Sunday.
The Oles nearly swept the top five spots in slalom, with Schonheyder's first place finish, Nate Hansen taking third, Grady Gores earning fourth, and Matt Hoffman finishing with fifth. Lars Midthun (eighth), Joe Masciopinto (ninth), and Jack Stang (tenth) rounded out the Oles' top 10 finishers.
In the giant slalom the Ole men proved exceptional, taking all top five spots and seven out of the top ten spots. St. Olaf was once again paced by Schonheyder, with Grady Gores finishing second, Hansen winning third, Hoffman taking fourth, and Florian Weil in fifth.
The Ole men dominated the field the entire weekend, finishing with only 8 place points while second place UMD ended the weekend with 21 points in the slalom. In the giant slalom, St. Olaf finished with a mere six points compared to second place UMD's 29.
The Oles compete next weekend at the Loch Lomond FIS Race in Thunder Bay, Canada.
