Roach, Bohler take home first at Central Invitational

PELLA, Iowa - The Ole wrestlers participated in the Central College Invitational on Saturday, which featured 7 teams in open competition. No team results were kept at the meet.
St. Olaf had a strong showing at the event, with five place winners, including first place finishes by senior Jake Bohler (157) and junior James Roach (174), second place finishes by freshmen Ryan Williamson (197) and Zach Gibson (285), and a fourth place finish by senior Thomas Mork (149).
Mork earned a fourth place spot after a grueling 6 matches, going 4-2 on the day including two pins. Williamson, who entered the tournament unseeeded, put together a strong performance and finished second at the event after reaching the finals with a 10-8 victory over David Denmer of Central College. Gibson continued his impressive season with a 2nd place finish, narrowly losing to John Schraidt of Augustana by two points and finishing the tournament 3-1.
Bohler, who entered the tournament as the top seed, won his first two matches by decisions before pinning his final two opponents for the tournament title. In his title match, Bohler had a thrilling defensive pin after falling behind 3-2 to Wartburg's Nick Michael. He finished the day with a record of 4-0.
Roach dominated the tournament, pinning his first two opponents and outscoring his last opponents 22-7, including a 14-3 romp over Augustana's Matt Burns for the title. Roach finished the day 4-0 and improved his season record to 17-8.
The Oles resume action on Tuesday, January 15 at Waldorf College at 7:00pm.
