Defense helps Ole women knock off Gusties

NORTHFIELD, Minn.- The St. Olaf women's basketball team forced 19 turnovers and held Gustavus to 3-of-17 shooting from behind the arc in a 62-49 MIAC win on Monday night at the Skoglund Center.
Mackenzie Wolter and Nikki Frogner led St. Olaf with 15 points each, while Elise Raney had 14. Lauren Gutierrez added five assists against only one turnover, while Woo Bandel had five steals as the Oles won for the fifth time in the last seven outings.
While the Gusties (11-5, 10-3 MIAC) struggled against the Ole zone, St. Olaf (8-8, 6-7 MIAC) got most of their offensive production from Frogner and Raney. The duo combined for 29 points on 12-21 shooting. Raney added four blocks and seven rebounds.
Karina Schroeder had a team-best 13 points to lead Gustavus. Julie Dyste added nine points and five rebounds.
St. Olaf had a season-low eight turnovers but were outrebounded for the only the second time this season.
The Oles play at St. Catherine on Wednesday night before returning home on Saturday against Macalester.
