Oles compete at USCSA Midwest Conference race

MT. LACROSSE, Wisc. - The St. Olaf men's alpine ski team finished eighth in the giant slalom, but came back to win the slalom event and finish fourth overall this weekend at the USCSA Midwest Conference competition.
In the slalom, Matt Hoffman picked up his first collegiate victory, posting a time of 29:65. Also placing for the Oles were Jack Stang (5th), Joe Masciopinto (6th), and Nick Kollias (7th). Although the men took four of the top seven spots, three of those were not varsity skiers and did not count toward the team score.
Nate Hansen also won his first collegiate race, taking the top spot in the giant slalom with a time of 59:47. Also placing for St. Olaf were Haakon Schonheyder (3rd), Joe Masciopinto (9th) and Grady Gores (10th). The Oles won the event with a team score of 11, with second place UMD finishing with 15.
The Oles compete next weekend at the Spirit Atmore Mid-Am FIS Race in Duluth, Wisc.
