ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Olaf junior Jeff Harris was named the MIAC's men's hockey player of the week on Monday after helping St. Olaf to a pair of 3-2 wins over St. Thomas this weekend.

The Oles used the four points to jump ahead of the Tommies and into the top spot in the MIAC standings.

Harris was a huge key to the Oles' success, as the forward lit the lamp twice in each game, scoring four crucial goals to help his team earn the sweep. Harris started his big weekend with two goals in Friday's 3-2 road win on St. Thomas' home ice. Harris scored the first goal of the game in the second period, then added his second goal early in the third while taking five shots in the victory. He was both productive and clutch a day later, starting the scoring with a power play goal, and netting the eventual game-winner in the first minute of the second period. Harris now leads the MIAC with 21 points and 13 goals, and his eight assists are tied for 11th in the conference.

St. Olaf is 9-8-2 overall, and 8-2 in MIAC play, with its 16 points putting it just ahead of the second-place Tommies (15). Harris and the Oles will try to hold on to first place with a home-and-home conference series with Augsburg this weekend. Friday's game will start at 7:30 p.m. in Northfield, while the Oles will hit the road for Saturday's 7:05 p.m. start in Minneapolis.
