SUGAR BOWL, Calif. - The Oles' alpine ski team competed in California and Colorado over interim break among some of the toughest competition they've faced this year. Haakon Schonheyder had the highest placing on the St. Olaf team with a fourth place finish in California.
St. Olaf competed the first three days of their trip in California, where Nate Hansen placed in each contest. Hansen was the lone Ole placer on the first day of competition, finishing in 10th place. After acclimating to the environment, the Oles picked it up and had two skiers in the top 20 with Haakon Schonheyder finishing fifth and Hansen taking 12th. The two both placed again on the final day in California, with Schonheyder improving to fourth and Hansen once again finishing tenth.
After a day of travel, St. Olaf competed in Loveland, Colorado. The Oles had four skiers in the top 100: Schonheyder (42nd), Florian Weil (68th), Hansen (84th), and Matt Hoffman (89th).
The Oles compete next at Afton Alps in the USCSA Mid-West Divisional Championships this weekend.
