Oles win USCSA Divisional Championships

AFTON, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's alpine ski team won the USCSA Divisional Championships this past weekend, with champions in both events. Sophomore Haakon Schonheyder took first in the slalom event and senior Nate Hansen won the giant slalom.

In a weekend that contained sleet, snow, and high winds, the Oles skied through the weather and took home first place honors. During the first day's slalom competition, St. Olaf had five of the top 10 finishers. In addition to the champion Schonheyder, St. Olaf placed Matt Hoffman (3rd), Florian Weil (4th), Lars Midthun (6th), and Joe Masciopinto (10th).

In Sunday's giant slalom St. Olaf once again had six placers in the top ten. Hansen took first, with, Grady Gores (2nd), Paal Proitz (4th), Hoffman (6th), Midthun (7th), and Schonheyder (10th) placing as well.

As a team, St. Olaf had a total score of 23, beating second place UMD by 14 points.

St. Olaf will compete next weekend at the Marquette Mountain Regional USCSA Race on February 16.
