Ole alpine skiers qualify for USCSA nationals

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The St. Olaf men's alpine ski team took first at the USCSA Regional Championships and earned a trip to the USCSA National Championships led by Haakon Schonheyder's first place finish in the giant slalom at Marquette Mountain this weekend.

The Oles earned three of the top five places in the first day's slalom event, led by Paal Proitz's third place finish. Closely following Proitz were fellow teammates Nate Hansen (fourth) and Florian Weil (fifth). All three of the top Oles were separated by less than a second. Rounding out the top 10 placers was Lars Midthun, who took tenth in the event.

In addition to Schonheyder's first place finish of 51.64 in the giant slalom, St. Olaf had four others in the top ten. Weil,(second), Proitz (third), Hansen (sixth), and Matt Hoffman (ninth).

Overall, St.Olaf won the event with 26 points, beating second place Michigan by 23.

The Oles will compete next at the USCSA National Championships in Sun Valley, Idaho March 5-9.
