Oles open with doubleheader over sweep Northwestern

MINNEAPOLIS - Late singles propelled St. Olaf in each game as the Oles opened the 2013 season with a 5-4 and 4-3 baseball doubleheader sweep over Northwestern College on Friday morning at the Metrodome.
Game One: St. Olaf 5, Northwestern 4
The Oles overcame a 4-1 deficit to upend the Eagles in the opener. Adam Alexander delivered a two-out, game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Oles' Joey Voss tossed four innings of two-hit, scoreless relief to get the win.
Adam Johnson was 3-for-3 with a double and Tim Maus 2-for-3 for St. Olaf in the win. David Joseph was 3-for-3 for the Eagles.
Game Two: St. Olaf 4, Northwestern 3
Jake Schmiesing had a two-out, two-run single in the seventh to give St. Olaf a 3-2 lead. Nick Denn had an RBI-single on the ensuing at bat and St. Olaf held on for a 4-3 win.
Tim Maus pitched the final three innings, allowing only an unearned run in his collegiate debut. He walked three, but also had three punchouts.
Schmiesing and Denn went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the win. Cody Durkee and Zach Markwith had two hits each for Northwestern (0-5).
