Woods, Lillehaugen, Saksa win as Oles are second after first day of MIAC's

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf won the distance medley relay and three individuals events -- Reggie Woods (60), Tim Lillehaugen (5,000) and Brian Saksa (Mile) -- as the host Oles stood in second place after the first of two days at the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Tostrud Center.

St. Olaf (82.0) is 26 points behind first place St. Thomas (108.0) and 39 points ahead of third place Bethel (43.0).

The Oles' Michael Roth, Woods, Skrip and Grant Wintheiser teamed to win the DMR in a time of 10:23.79, about two and a half seconds ahead of second place Bethel.

Woods won an individual title earlier in the night as he won the 60-meter dash with a 6.96 in the final, as he edged Augsburg's Lekpea Kordah (6.99) and Gustavus' Phillip Butler (7.06).

Saksa won the mile with a time of 4:14.43, over four seconds faster than second place finisher Szah Hasins of Bethel. Teammate Paul Escher was third (4:19.26).

Lillehaugen was the other individual champion, as he came from behind and held off Michaele Tesema from Augsburg with a winning time of 14:55.67.

The Oles' Brian Tomlinson finished second in the 800, in a time of 1:56.65.

Other St. Olaf top performances
- James McFarlin was fourth in the 400 (50.11).
- St. Olaf went 4-5 in the 60 meter hurdles as Brandon Berger was fourth (8.758) and Aaron Dunphy fifth (8.80).
- Ethan Lunning was fourth in the shot put with a 14.93-meter effort in the final.
