OWATONNA, Minn.- The St. Olaf women's tennis team picked up their second MIAC win to start the season by sweeping Hamline 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at Owatonna Indoor Tennis Center.
Lisa Hall, Kristi Kroker, and Maya MacGibbon each won in both singles and doubles for the St. Olaf (2-1, 2-0 MIAC). Hamline falls to 1-4 and 0-3 in the MIAC.
The Oles lost just one game in the three doubles matches. The teams of Hall and Julia Ellis and Kroker and MacGibbon both won 8-0 at first and second doubles. Caitlin Owsley and Andrea Jumes defeated Leeanna Manthe and Shamara Duwearatchi 8-1 at third doubles. Each of the three Ole teams are now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
In singles, Ellis sat out for St. Olaf due to a foot injury, meaning everyone but Hall moved up a spot in the line-up. However, the Oles still managed to claim all six matches in straight sets. Hall, Kroker, Lizzie Carlson, Bailey Kent, and Erin Hynes all improved to 2-0 in MIAC play with their wins. In her first MIAC singles match, MacGibbon defeated Rachael Barnes 6-3, 6-1 at third singles in the closest match of the day. Through two MIAC matches, the Oles have recorded 12 straight-set wins in 12 matches.
St. Olaf looks to continue its strong start on Friday night when they face St. Thomas in Owatonna at 6:30. The Tommies (3-0, 1-0 MIAC) were picked to finish in a tie for second in the MIAC.
