Ole women sweep past Saint Mary's

WINONA, Minn.- In their first MIAC match in nearly a month, the St. Olaf women's tennis team swept past Saint Mary's University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Winona Tennis Center.
Lisa Hall, Julia Ellis, Maya MacGibbon, and Kristi Kroker each won in both singles and doubles for St. Olaf (6-5, 3-1 MIAC). Saint Mary's falls to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in MIAC play.
After entering the match with a 13-17 mark in doubles play this year, St. Olaf got off to a good start with a doubles sweep. Hall and Ellis improved to 3-1 in conference play this year with an 8-2 win over Kirsten Hoffman and Katie Krull. MacGibbon teamed with Andrea Jumes for an 8-5 victory against Grace Zachman and Lexi Felten at second doubles. Kroker and Bailey Kent made it two wins out of two as a pair as they defeated Reinisch and Deanne Weber 8-2.
The Oles took all six singles matches in straight sets. Hall and Lizzie Carlson each dropped just one game in their singles wins at first and sixth singles. Ellis leveled her season record at 5-5 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Reinisch at second singles. After three long matches over spring break, MacGibbon did not lose a game to Krull at fourth singles. After winning the first set 6-3, Kroker fell behind 3-0 to Weber in the second set but recovered to take it 7-5. Erin Hynes won her fourth straight singles match by surrendering just two games to Rachel Luetmer. St. Olaf is now 20-4 in MIAC singles matches this spring.
The Oles now turn their attention to Thursday when the face cross-town rival Carlton at home at 4 p.m.
