St. Thomas sweeps St. Olaf, adds to winning streak

ST. PAUL, Minn. - No. 4 University of St. Thomas cruised to a MIAC baseball sweep with commanding 8-0 and 16-1 victories over St. Olaf on Sunday afternoon.
Game One: St. Thomas 8, St. Olaf 0
St. Thomas grabbed the lead in the first inning and never relinquished it, holding St. Olaf scoreless and to only three hits in an 8-0 victory.
Five runs by the Tommies in the fifth and sixth innings put the game out of reach.
St. Thomas pitcher Colin Wendinger picks up the shutout win, putting in six innings of work striking out five.
Dylan Thomas and Tim Kuzniar had strong games in the middle of the Tommies batting order, each recording two hits and three RBIs.
Game Two: St. Thomas 16, St. Olaf 1
St. Thomas scored early and scored often in a 16-1 drubbing of St. Olaf in game two of the doubleheader.
Five runs in the first inning set the pace for an offensive onslaught for the Tommies, who saw 12 different players combine for 17 hits on the game.
Zach Franz struck out nine batters in a six-inning performance.
The Oles avoided getting shut out for the second consecutive game when Christian Erickson hit a home run in the seventh inning.
The two victories on Sunday extended the Tommies' winning streak to 14 games, and their home winning streak to 33 games.
St. Olaf travels to St. Peter on Tuesday for a MIAC doubleheader against Gustavus. Game one starts at 2:30 p.m.
