JERUSALEM - St. Olaf senior-to-be David Rosenthal will debut for the Maccabi USA men's open soccer team on Friday in the 2013 Maccabiah Games.

The event features over 9,000 athletes from 77 countries in 38 sporting events and is known as the "Jewish Olympics." The United States has the largest visiting delegation in the games with over 1,100 competitors.

Rosenthal is the only Minnesotan and NCAA Division III athlete on the men's soccer team, which begins play against Uruguay on Friday afternoon.

In his first three seasons at St. Olaf Rosenthal has amassed 30 goals and 22 assists. He was a first team All-America pick and MIAC player of the year as a sophomore and is a two-time All-MIAC and all-region selection.

Rosenthal played his high school soccer at Apple Valley High School, where he was the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press Metro Player of the Year and an all-state honoree.
