NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Jacob Olsen, a 2006 graduate of St. Olaf, was named head coach of the Ole men's and women's alpine ski programs on Tuesday, athletic director Matt McDonald announced.
Olsen skied at St. Olaf and served as head coach at Lakeville North High School since 2006, where he led the boys team to a state title in 2007. He was also on staff for the Buck Hill Ski Club where he was head coach for the U14 and U16 Junior Championships teams.
"We are thrilled to bring Jacob back to St. Olaf as our head men's and women's alpine ski coach," McDonald said. "His experience as a collegiate competitor and club and high school coach have prepared him well to head our alpine program."
St. Olaf is the only varsity alpine ski program in Minnesota. The Oles compete in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA). In 2012, St. Olaf finished third in the men's and fifth in the women's USCSA Championships, and combined with the Oles' nordic teams to win the association's Presidents Cup which combine alpine and nordic skiing.
