NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Augsburg College had too much firepower for the St. Olaf Volleyball team to handle, as the 21st-ranked Auggies defeated the Oles 25-14, 25-23, 25-15 on Wednesday night at Skoglund Center.

Three different players with nine or more kills helped power the Augsburg offense. Ashley Peper led the way notching 13 kills while hitting .296. Taylor Trautman hit .316 while adding nine kills.

After the Auggies took the first set convincingly, hitting a collective .538, the Oles came tantalizingly close to knotting up the match in the second.

The Oles rallied from a 20-14 deficit to take a late 23-21 lead in the set. However, they surrendered four straight points, including two attack errors, to drop the set.

St. Olaf stormed out to a 5-1 lead in set three but could not hold off the Auggies, who came back to win 25-15.

Kelly Heissel led the Ole offense with eight kills as St. Olaf hit .052 as a team. Molly Nelson hit a torrid .312, adding five kills and three digs.

The win improves Augsburg to 3-0 in the MIAC and 14-2 overall while St. Olaf drops to 1-2 in league play and 6-9 overall.

The Auggies are 11-1 in their last 12 contests and have only dropped two sets over those eleven victories.

St. Olaf remains at home on Saturday against the University of St. Thomas; the second of three in-a-row at Skoglund Center, scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
