SJU defeats Oles

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Connor Bruns threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns as visiting Saint John's University topped St. Olaf 31-0 on Saturday afternoon at Manitou Field.

Rob Voshell had eight receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns for SJU (4-1, 2-1 MIAC), which led 17-0 at the break.

The St. Olaf defense stopped Saint John's on three 4th-and-short situations, once in the second quarter and twice in the third, but the Ole offense was unable to capitalize.

Cam Smith led the Ole defense with 15 tackles, while Erick Marigi had 13 in the defeat.

The Oles' Nate Penz was 10-for-24 for 172 yards in the loss. Jake Schmiesing had three catches for 65 yards, including a 52-yard reception in the third quarter to lead St. Olaf (1-4, 0-3 MIAC).

The Johnnies' Jakob Certeza rushed for 114 yards on 14 carries. He had a 56-yard run that led to a SJU score.

St. Olaf hosts Hamline University next Saturday.
