Oles fail to complete comeback, fall to MAC

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf volleyball team held a 19-10 lead in the fourth set, but failed to complete a comeback effort over conference foe Macalester, falling 25-21, 26-24, 14-25, 25-20 on Wednesday evening at Skoglund Center.
St. Olaf managed to stay close to the Scots in the first two sets but ended up on the short end, with Macalester taking the sets 25-21 and 26-24 respectively. However, the Oles fought back thanks to a balanced team effort and took the third set by a convincing 25-14 score.
The Oles continued to show fight and determination in the fourth set and looked to be well on their way to forcing a match-deciding fifth, but the Scots went on a 15-1 run to close out the set and match.
Junior Molly Nelson led the way for St. Olaf with 15 kills in addition to her three service aces. Kersten Bork also played a key role in the Ole comeback effort with her 42 assists and 21 digs.
The Oles next contest will take place October 16 when they take the road to play St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
