NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's soccer team used strong performances from forwards Ryan Johnsrud and Kevin Skrip to salt the UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs 4-0 in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

Johnsrud tallied two goals in the victory, including one to open the scoring at 14:38 when he converted a goal-mouth feed from Skrip.

His second goal came near the midway point of the match, as Johnsrud was the beneficiary of another Skrip assist, beating Santa Cruz goalkeeper Nate Levinson. The senior from Plymouth, Minn. now has six goals on the season.

Skrip, normally relied upon for his goal scoring for the Oles, took the role of playmaker on Saturday, dishing out three assists. The sophomore factored in all but the Oles' second goal, increasing his point total to 23 on the year, good for second in the MIAC.

Mackenzie Lund and Aaron Stets also scored for St. Olaf, as they controlled play from the outset, outshooting the Banana Slugs 15-6.

The Oles' trend of stifling goaltending continued, as Ben Braman and Preben Bay combined to stop four shots to earn the shutout. St. Olaf has blanked their opponents in four of their last five matches.

The victory came in the first of a four-game homestand to end the 2013 regular season for the Oles (12-2-1 overall, 5-1-1 MIAC). The University of St. Thomas visits Rolf Mellby Field next Saturday at 1 p.m.
