Women's soccer ties St. Thomas
October 26, 2013
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The. St. Olaf women's soccer team tied the University of St. Thomas 0-0 for the third year in a row in a key MIAC matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Tommies had eight shots on goal compared to the Oles three, but St. Olaf goalkeeper Nora Forbes was able to keep the ball out of the net by tallying eight saves on the day and captured her third shutout in a row.
"I thought the defense really showed up to play today," said Forbes. "We were able to limit St. Thomas's quality opportunities...most of the shots they took were outside of 25 yards which makes my job a lot easier. It's been two weeks now since we have let up a goal and I have confidence that we can maintain our defensive integrity in the final week of regular season play."
Although ties aren't known for boosting teams in the standings, the Oles managed to move up a spot and into a tie for third place with Concordia after the Cobbers were defeated by Carleton 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
St. Olaf (6-2-1 MIAC, 8-5-2 overall) will travel to Minneapolis on Wednesday for a rare nightcap against Augsburg. Play will begin at 7:30 p.m.
