NEW ORLEANS - The St. Olaf men's cross country team was ranked third in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III national coaches' poll on the heels of a team title at UW-La Crosse's Jim Drews Invitational.

The Oles upended host and then second-ranked UW-La Crosse by a convincing margin, as St. Olaf had five runners in the top 13 and had 41 team points while second place UW-La Crosse had 96.

The ranking is the highest for St. Olaf since the USTFCCCA poll was introduced in 2006 and is the best ranking for any St. Olaf team competing in a NCAA sport since the Ole baseball team was ranked third in 2000.

St. Olaf will defend its 2012 conference title next weekend at the MIAC Championships at Como Park in St. Paul. The Oles have won two titles under sixth-year head coach Phil Lundin, last season and 2008.
