Macalester upends Ole women in snowy MIAC playoff game
November 5, 2013
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Olaf women's soccer team was bounced from the MIAC playoffs with a 5-0 loss at second-seeded Macalester College on a snowy Tuesday night.
The Scots (13-4-1) got an Ingrid Greene goal in the 25th minute to take a 1-0 lead that would stand for the next 45 minutes. Greene took a shot from 35 that St. Olaf goalkeeper Nora Forbes attempted to scoop. However, the sloppy conditions caused Forbes to bobble the ball and it bounced over her head and just crossed the goal line. At the 70:01 mark, Macalester scored the first of four more goals in the next 18-plus minutes, two of which came on penalty kicks.
Macalester dominated possession of the ball throughout the game and also held a steep advantage on shots. The Scots shot 23 times compared to the Oles seven.
The playoff appearance was the second in a row for the Oles and marked the final game for seniors Megan Campbell, Susie Jelinek, Rachael Stets, Amanda Leone, Emma Crumley and Nora Forbes.
