November 15, 2013
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Olaf Women's Hockey team fought off a late rally from St. Benedict's to secure a 3-2 MIAC victory on Friday night.
Margot Fleming's power play goal proved to be the game winner as St. Olaf (1-2-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) edged St. Ben's (0-2-0, 0-1-0 MIAC) in the conference opener for both teams.
The Oles led 2-0 when Katie Moeller scored from Tara Reyelts and Lisa Tuuri at the 5:27 mark in the second period. St. Benedict then scored two straight as Elli Marvin connected with Stephanie Kirk at the seven minute mark to notch the duo's first of two goals in the second period. Kirk added another goal from Marvin less then 10 minutes later to tie the game at 2-2.
Fleming's goal proved to be enough as Sam Ubl recorded 42 saves in the Oles first victory of the 2013-2014 season. This is the fourth time in her career in which Ubl has recorded 42 or more saves.
The Oles travel back home for the rematch against St. Benedict tomorrow night at 7:30 P.M.
