Ole men's hockey falls to Tommies in shootout

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Ole men's hockey team experienced their first shootout of the season in a loss to St. Thomas. In a very close game, the Oles and Tommies skated to a 2-2 tie in regulation and overtime.

After a scoreless first period, sophomore Peter Lindblad started the scoring for the Oles in the second period. The Tommies answered with one minute remaining in the second period. St. Thomas took the lead 2-1 five minutes into the third period. Sophomore Marc Richards tied the score at two for the Oles.

With no clear cut chances in overtime for either team, the Tommies won the shootout 2-1 after four shooters. Sophomore Ole Setsaas was the lone goalscorer for the Oles. Junior goaltender Steve Papciak was solid all night with 34 saves and two saves in the shootout.

The loss drops St. Olaf to 1-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in MIAC play. The Oles hope to rebound tomorrow night at St. Thomas (3-0-0, 6-1-0 MIAC) in St. Paul at 7:00 pm.
