Ole men's hockey drops 3-1 decision to Gustavus

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's hockey team lost 3-1 to Gustavus in a tightly contested MIAC game on Friday night at Northfield Ice Arena.

The Gusties jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, on goals from Corey Leiverman and Gavin Tufte, inside the opening six minutes. Leivermann's goal came at 2:30 on a power play while Tufte scored at 5:49.

Both teams had great scoring chances in a scoreless second period. The Oles cut the lead in half with a goal from senior Dan Cecka with the assists to Mark Rath and David Rath at 9:24 of the third period.

St. Olaf pulled its goalie and increased the pressure in the final three minutes of the game and came close to tying the game with a few scrambles in front of the net. The Gusties scored an empty net goal with thirty seconds left to create the final margin.

The Oles (3-7-1 overall, 1-3-1 MIAC) complete their series with Gustavus (7-3-1 overall, 4-1-0 MIAC) Saturday night in St. Peter at 7:05 pm.
