Raney double-double leads Ole women past Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS - Elise Raney had 18 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks as St. Olaf defeated Augsburg College 64-55 in a MIAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.
Raney went 6-for-7 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line as St. Olaf held off a second half surge from the host Auggies (2-2, 0-2 MIAC). The double-double was the third straight for Raney.
Augsburg was led by Jolene Blood, who had 23 points. Blood had six three-pointers while Jilly Tishy added 19 points, seven assists and nine rebounds in the loss.
Kim Cerjan added 17 points and eight rebounds while Emily Wahlberg had nine points and Lauren Gutierrez seven assists for St. Olaf (4-1, 2-0 MIAC).
St. Olaf raced to an 18-5 lead in the opening minutes. The Oles held a seven-point lead at the half, but Augsburg closed the gap to one (44-43) on a Blood layup with 7:31 left. The Oles then scored the next seven points and held on by making 13-of-16 free throw attempts inside the final three-plus minutes.
St. Olaf outrebounded Augsburg 49-41, but the Auggies had 23 offensive boards. The Oles shot 42.9 percent (18-for-42) from the floor while Augsburg was a 20-of-78 (25.6).
St. Olaf hosts Saint Mary's University on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Augsburg plays next on Wednesday at Concordia-Moorhead.
