Late run not enough, Ole men lose at Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS - St. Olaf scored nine straight points late in the second half to get within one, but Augsburg had a 21-point game from Dan Kornbaum to escape with a 71-66 MIAC men's basketball win over the visiting Oles on Saturday afternoon.
Nathan Kuck had 16 points off the bench and Sterling Nielsen 14 for the Oles in the loss. St. Olaf (4-3, 1-1 MIAC) had a spark from Sam Daly, who hit three 3-pointers in the second half, including two in the final 3:37.
Noah Veach added 17 points and Andy Seidlitz 13 for the Auggies (4-1, 1-1 MIAC), who were 18-for-24 from the line. St. Olaf went to the charity stripe only six times, making five.
Augsburg had its largest lead, 12, early in the second half. The Oles, down nine (63-54), scored eight straight on a pair of Daly three's and a steal and layup by Kuck.
The Auggies put away the game with a Kornbaum offensive rebound on a free throw with 14 seconds left and the subsequent made free throws by Veach with nine seconds left.
