Gustavus takes shootout win over Ole men

ST. PETER, Minn. - Gustavus Adolphus College scored a shootout victory over St. Olaf in a MIAC men's hockey game at Don Roberts Arena on Saturday night.
The teams skated to a 2-2 tie through three periods and a five-minute overtime session before the Gustav Bengston scored on first of two Gustie attempts. St. Olaf went without a goal in each of its three tries.
Bengston scored the game's first goal, an even-strength score 15 seconds into the first period.
St. Olaf rallied, with power play tallies from David Rath, at 8:24 of the first, and Peter Lindblad. Lindblad's goal gave St. Olaf a 2-1 lead with five minutes left in the second.
Gustavus tied the game on a Andy Person goal at 5:16 of the third.
St. Olaf netminder Steve Papciak had 43 saves, including two on breakaways in the third period to keep it tied.
The Oles (3-7-2, 1-3-2 MIAC) is off until a Jan. 4 meeting with UW-River Falls in South St. Paul, Minn.
