Ole women fall to SMU at home

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Despite a second half rally, the St. Olaf women's basketball team fell to Saint Mary's University 68-57 at the Skoglund Center in its third MIAC game this season.
Trailing 33-22 at halftime, the Oles went on a 15-4 run at 3:52, bringing the Cardinal's lead to one (42-41). Saint Mary's responded with an 11-4 run of its own to extend the lead (55-45). The teams played even in the second half, 35-35.
Kim Cerjan recorded a double-double in a 13-point, 12-rebound performance, shooting 8-for-8 from the free throw line.Emily Wahlberg added seven points, seven rebounds, and a blocked shot. Lauren Gutierrez and Brittany Webber had six and seven points respectively.
Sara Schoenthaler led the Cardinals with 15 points. Darcey Rice recorded 12 points, including four three-pointers. Bridget Pethke also had 12 points and four rebounds.
St. Olaf won the rebound battle (39-32). SMU shot 21-of-52 for 40.4 percent, the Oles finished 17-of-51 (33.3).
The Oles season continues Wednesday at St. Catherine University at 7:30 p.m.
