Oles hold on to defeat Gustavus

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Sophomore center Emily Wahlberg tallied 17 points and eight rebounds to help the St. Olaf women's basketball team defeat Gustavus Adolphus 68-64 in a Saturday afternoon showdown at Skoglund Center.
Playing in their first game of 2014, the Ole women took an 8-6 lead with 16:13 remaining in the first half and never looked back. St. Olaf (6-2, 4-1 MIAC) lead 35-30 at the half and even boasted a 54-40 advantage at the 10:45 mark in the second half. Gustavus (5-3, 2-3 MIAC) then went on a 12-2 run to trim the Ole lead to 56-52 with 4:28 remaining in the game to make things interesting, but St. Olaf was able to prevail in the final minutes and took home a 68-64 victory.
Gustavus was lead by Britta Rinke who went 11-for-21 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free throw line to finish with 28 points. The senior also grabbed 11 rebounds for the Gusties.
St. Olaf will return to action on Monday when Concorida-Moorhead comes to town for a 5:45 game at Skoglund Center.
