January 4, 2014
SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. - UW-River Falls used three second period scores to top St. Olaf 4-2 in a men's hockey game on Saturday night at Wakota Arena.
Dan Cecka and Mike Erickson had a goal and an assist each for the Oles (3-8-2) in the loss.
After a scoreless first, St. Olaf took a 1-0 lead on a Cecka goal at 4:54. The advantage was short lived. The Falcons' Alec Hagaman and Jeff Burke then each scored in the next four-plus minutes to give UW-River Falls a 2-1 lead. Mitch Kontny added a goal with 4:19 left in the period to make it 3-1 after two.
St. Olaf narrowed the lead on Erickson's tally late in the third, with three minutes left in regulation on assists from Cecka and Ben Gislason. But the Falcons put it away on a Zach Schrotenboer empty net goal with 31 seconds left.
St. Olaf plays a pair of non-conference home games -- with Adrian and Lake Forest -- next weekend before returning to league play Jan. 17-18.
