Ole men's hockey battles for overtime tie against No. 1 Adrian College

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf men's hockey team battled No. 1 Adrian College to a 4-4 tie on Friday night at Northfield Ice Arena.
St. Olaf (3-8-3) had goals from four different players and held a 38-31 advantage in shots. The Oles had a 3-1 lead in the second period but Adrian, the last unbeaten team in the country, scored a pair of goals in the last 10 minutes of the frame to tie it at 3-3.
A tight-checking, defensive first period finished 1-1 with the Oles (3-8-3) outshooting the Bulldogs (12-0-2) 8-3. The game and the score opened up with the Oles taking a 3-1 lead with goals from sophomores Nick Marsh and Mike Erickson.
St. Olaf sophomore Mark Rath scored a power play goal at 1:33 of the third period on a feed from Tim Tuscher. The Bulldogs' Brent Sauve tied the game three and a half minutes later on a pass from Kevin Balas at 5:07.
The teams combined for 11 shots in the overtime session, but each netminder held to finish the game in a 4-4 tie. Steve Papciak had 27 saves while Adrian's James Hamby had 34.
The Oles have a quick turn around with a game on Saturday afternoon at home against Lake Forest College at 2:30 p.m.
