Men's Nordic ski team fifth at Telemark

CABLE, Wis. - Junior Jake Brown led the St. Olaf Men's Nordic team to a fifth place finish among eight college teams over a weekend of racing at Telemark Resort.
The 15 kilometer mass start race was the first of the season with a full field of all Central Region college teams. Brown's second place finish, 10 seconds behind Northern Michigan's Kyle Bratrud, was his also his second podium finish of the season.
Sophomore Evan Kendall, continuing to show significant improvement over last season, was the Oles' second skier, finishing 24th among college skiers in a time of 42:32.4. Sophomore Liam John placed 39th, while senior Joel Bransky finished 44th and junior Nels Thompson finished 48th.
On the second day of racing, Sunday's 10 kilometer individual start classic race, Brown finished 13th in a time of 28:52.0, about a minute and a half behind race winner Michael Fehrenbach of Alaska-Fairbanks.
Evan Kendall was again the second scoring skier for St. Olaf, finishing 31st, about two minutes behind Brown in a time of 30:48.2. Joel Bransky finished 39th and Nels Thompson finished 42nd.
The Oles' next competition is January 24-25, at Mt. Itasca in Coleraine, Minn.
