Gunderson has 20 as Oles hold off Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. - Connor Gunderson had 20 points as St. Olaf outlasted Gustavus Adolphus College 77-72 in a MIAC men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court.
St. Olaf (15-4, 12-2 MIAC) has won its last eight games and 11 of its last 12.
Sterling Nielsen added 16 points and nine assists, with no turnovers, as the Oles built a 14-point lead but had to hold off a furious rally from the host Gusties.
Gustavus used a 13-2 run toward the end of the first half to cut the St. Olaf advantage to six at the break. The Gusties took brief one-point leads midway through the second half, but St. Olaf scored eight straight on a lay up by Andrew Turnblad and back-to-back threes by Justin Pahl.
Pahl finished with 12 points.
The teams traded baskets over the final three-plus minutes as the Ole lead waxed and waned between one and four. Nielsen and Gunderson made four straight free throws inside the final 13 seconds to ice the win.
Jordan Dick had 20 points and Gary Cooper 17 and eight assists off the bench to lead the Gusties (12-7, 9-5).
