Escher sets school record in the 1000m

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Paul Escher won the 1000m and crossed the line with a new school record as the St. Olaf Men's Track and Field Team competed at the St. Olaf Triangular in Tostrud Fieldhouse on Friday night.

Escher finished with a time of 2:28.69, breaking an over thirty year record. The previous record, 2:29.0, was set by Mark Defor in 1983.

The Oles had first place finishes in every track event from the 400m to the 3K. James McFarlin edged out teammate Aaron Stets at the finish line of the 400m dash. McFarlin (50.67) was one hundredth of a second ahead of Stets (50.68) as they finished first and second in the event.

Kevin Skrip won the 600m in 1:24.89, while Chris Folken was first in the 800m (2:00.98), Jake Campbell in the mile (4:27.30), and Phil Meyer in the 3K (8:48.58). In the field, Ethan Lunning won the shot put with a throw of 14.03m. St. Olaf's 4x4 meter relay ended the meet with a win and a time of 3:27.60. Stets, McFarlin, Anton Hesse, and Skrip completed the relay team.

The Oles next compete at the Carleton Open on February 7.
