Schember takes the podium at CCSA Championships

ISHPEMING, Mich. - Senior Paige Schember earned her first podium spot of the season with a third place finish at the CCSA Championships on Sunday, as St. Olaf competed at Al Quaal Recreation Center.
Schember continued a streak of sixth place finishes in Saturday's 5 kilometer individual start classic race to lead the Oles, 35 seconds behind race winner Mary Kate Cirelli of host Northern Michigan. Sophomore Nora Gilbertson finished 21st, but less than 15 seconds out of the top ten. Senior Kelsey Cork was the Oles' third scoring skier, finishing 39th, while first-year Shelby Ahrendt, in her first race back after a foot injury, finished 51st.
In Sunday's 15 kilometer mass start freestyle race, Schember earned her second podium finish of the season, placing third behind NMU's Rosie Frankowski and Cirelli. St. Olaf's second skier on the day was again Gilbertson, finishing 30th, while Kelsey Cork finished 36th to complete the Oles' scoring team. Shelby Ahrendt improved significantly over Saturday's result, placing 39th.
The Oles race next at the NCAA Central Region Championships, hosted by Michigan Tech University, February 15-16.
