Women's tennis starts season strong with win over Bethel

OWATONNA, Minn. - The St. Olaf women's tennis team started their season with a bang by taking a 9-0 victory over Bethel University on Friday evening at the Owatonna Tennis Center.
Lisa Hall, Mya MacGibbon, Bailey Kent and Kristi Kroker each won singles and doubles matches for the Oles. Hall and MacGibbon began their partnership at first doubles with an 8-4 victory, Kent and Andrea Jumes tallied an 8-5 win at the second spot and Kroker and Caitlin Owsley completed the sweep at third with an 8-4 victory.
In singles action, Hall, Kroker, MacGibbon, Kent and Lizzie Carlson all won in straight sets. The closest match of the day was at fifth singles. St. Olaf's Erin Hynes cruised to a 6-1 victory in the first set and was up 3-0 in the second set before eventually surrendering the set 7-5. However, Hynes prevailed in a tough tiebreaker with several long points by a score of 10-8.
St. Olaf (1-0, 1-0 MIAC) will compete again next Friday against Gustavus Adolphus in Owatonna. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m.
