OWATONNA, Minn - The St. Olaf men's tennis team earned their first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon by defeating Bethel University 6-3 at the Owatonna Tennis Center.

The Ole men got off to a solid start, by taking two of the three doubles matches from the Royals. Stephen Nolan and Joey Kronzer picked up a quick 8-4 victory at the number one spot and the team of Nico Gibb and Mike Schroeder won 8-6 at third.

Nolan, Kronzer and Schroeder were also key contributors on the singles front as they each won their matches at the one, two and six positions respectively.

"Joey and Mike were important getting two victories for us," said Nolan.

Ben Carlson was the other singles victor for the Oles as he picked up a win in a marathon match over Bethel's Kolin Kiekhoefer by a score of 1-6, 6-3,(10-8).

"This was a strong team effort," said Nolan. "Especially considering Bethel had few matches under their belt already, I think this was a great win and confidence builder for our team."

The Oles will have their hands full in their next match as they will be taking on 18th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus next Saturday. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Owatonna Tennis Center.
