Men's nordic ski team finish 6th in NCAA Central Region

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The St. Olaf men's nordic ski team finished 6th at the NCAA Central Region Championships this weekend at Michigan Tech.
For the first time this season, sophomore Evan Kendall was the Oles' top scorer in 25th in Saturday's 10K classic race. He finished the course in a time of 33:02.4, 3:08 behind race winner Kyle Bratrud of Northern Michigan. Junior Jake Brown finished 29th, 23 seconds behind Kendall. Sophomore Liam John was St. Olaf's final scoring skier, finishing 35th. Other Olaf finishes included Joel Bransky in 40th, eight seconds ahead of teammatate Nels Thompson (41st). Cole Hendrickson finished 47th.
In Sunday's 15K freestyle race, Brown skied in a large lead pack through the first 10 kilometers, ultimately finishing 8th among college skiers and 9th overall. He finished 33 seconds behind race winner Erik Soderman. Evan Kendall completed his best weekend of racing this season, finishing as St. Olaf's second skier in 26th overall. The race secured Kendall's spot at the USSA Junior National Championships in March. Liam John had another strong skate race to finish 28th as the Oles' third scoring skier. Thompson was 41st, while Bransky finished 43rd and Hendrickson was 49th.
Next weekend, many Ole skiers will compete at the American Birkebiner in Hayward, Wisconsin as they await the USCSA National Championships in Lake Placid, New York, March 11-15.
