Ole women drop tight one at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. - In a game that was tightly contested from start to finish, the St. Olaf women's basketball team came out on the losing side of a 61-58 decision to Macalester College on Wednesday night from Leonard Center in MIAC play.
Elise Raney had 22 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks to pace the Oles (14-10, 12-9 MIAC). Erin Murray had 20 of her game-best 23 points in the first half to lead Macalester (4-20, 3-18 MIAC).
The Scots broke a 54-54 tie with just over five minutes remaining in the game, and held on for the win despite St. Olaf remaining within a possession of the lead down the stretch.
When the dust settled, there were 14 lead changes on the night, with neither team able to build a lead of over eight points. Macalester led 29-28 at the half.
Raney went 8-for-14 from the floor and a perfect 2-for-2 outside the arc.
Emily Wahlberg added nine points for St. Olaf while Lauren Gutierrez and Zoe Hansen each tacked on eight each.
The loss drops St. Olaf to 12-9 in MIAC action and 14-10 overall with one game to go before the MIAC playoffs. Currently sitting in fifth place, the Oles wrap up their regular season on Saturday when they visit Bethel, whom they defeated 69-57 on Jan. 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
